Services Natural Resource & Vegetation Monitoring

Florida’s natural resources are under increasing threats from climate change, fire suppression, hydrology changes, land development pressures, and invasive or exotic species introductions. In recent years, developers have sought sustainable solutions for development or re-development projects, such as clustering development or setting aside natural areas as conservation areas. CECOS can assist the Client during all stages of the development process.

CECOS staff are routinely contracted to conduct studies of natural lands, such as a due-diligence study prior to land purchase, during the development of a parcel, or during habitat restoration planning.

These studies can also be part of documentation under the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) and are recorded in a supporting document (e.g., Endangered Species Biological Assessment or Wetland Evaluation Report). CECOS staff have many years of experience conducting these types of studies, including surveys for threatened and endangered species, habitat delineations, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping.

CECOS can provide the following types of natural resource services:

CECOS staff is also highly trained in the identification of Florida plant species, including the identification of rare or endangered species and their habitats. We routinely use literature research, field identification, and habitat analysis and mapping. We use state-of-the-art Global Positioning System (GPS) and GIS technology to document our findings and to conduct impact evaluations. CECOS is very familiar with the biological and regulatory requirements for threatened and endangered species, often providing long-term vegetation monitoring to comply with permit conditions. We have the training and expertise to design and carry out rigorous monitoring programs, including the evaluation of long-term data trends.
